Hello I'm Tom. CG & Visual Effects artist, web designer and entrepreneur
based in London, UK
ThinkTwice [VFX compositing]
We’ve been provided with raw camera footage & tracking data to work with. My job was to create realistic looking scenery with CG objects incorporated into the scene. To accomplish this task I used several different passes from V-ray and comped together in Nuke. This allowed me to experiment with different grading alternatives as well as overall feel of the scenery.
Logo – Red Mystique
If you are into graphic design and product design overall you must have seen the shift during the last year or so. Everything is getting sharper than before. I like to think that Lamborghini Aventador was the starter point here when lot of graphic designers started thinking “no more curves, let’s make it as sharp as possible”. There’re just too many products and graphics designs our there inspired by this…
Identity & branding package
If you want to look professional and make your web presence relevant you must think about your branding and identity. Today there are just too many ways where you can use your logo throughout the internet. You must be sure you stay consistent and also be sure everybody who wants to use your logo or any branding material will follow certain rules. That’s the main point of branding and identity…
Street visualization
My job was to create a visual representation of a building based on real-life reference. First I aligned camera with the original image, created a base mesh, set up an UV layout and extracted textures from reference images. Majority of textures used in this visualization had to be made seamless in Photoshop. mental ray was chosen as a final render engine.
Mad Wizard
Mad Wizard was created from scratch, started as an idea on paper brought to life in approximately 2 weeks. I used Maya for base mesh creation & UV layout, then Zbrush for sculpting, texturing, retopologizing & positioning. Final render was done with mental ray in Maya.
City mattepainting
Main purpose of this job was to demonstrate Maya’s capabilities in camera projection. First I had to animate camera and establish what is going to be visible in the final shot and create buildings accordingly. After this, simply re-project texture on top of it and paint out overlaps. I used 21 cameras for the final projection.
Home of a mouse
Plain model provided by Danny Bouimad was textured & lit in Maya using default light sets compatible with mental ray. Final render was brought into Photoshop for final touches.
Rat Texturing
My job was to create realistic looking textures in Mari and experiment with SSS shader in Maya. As my main render engine I chose V-ray over mental ray because of it’s FastSSS shader which is precise and easy to set-up.
Toy model
CG model created from visual reference. Basic modelling was done in Maya, exported to Mudbox for texturing and sculpting. A displacement map from Mudbox was exported back to Maya to create ‘cracked’ effect for final render.
Anatomy sculpt
I’d been provided with the base mesh of human from which I had to sculpt all muscles. Although I like Mudbox as well, I chose to go with Zbrush for it’s powerful clay brush. This was a part of my art skills assignment including some life drawing pieces which you can find in my portfolio in the “life drawing” section.
